Types of Power Socket

Type A
Unground plugs with two parallel, flat prongs are known as type A plugs. The voltage and current ratings for these plugs are 125V and 15A, respectively. Plugs of type A fit both Type A and Type B sockets.

Type E
Two round pins make up Type E electrical plugs. They feature a 14 mm long by 4.8 mm diameter female interface or hole that takes the earthing pin from the socket. Underneath the plug pins lies this contact. Due to their asymmetric pin layout, Type E plugs prevent polarity reversal.

Type C
The most commonly used electrical plug worldwide is type C plug. It has two spherical pins and is an unpolarised and ungrounded plug.

Type F
Except for their imperfectly shaped pins, Type F plugs are nearly identical to Type E plugs in terms of pin diameters. Two earthing clips in Type F plugs replace a female earthing contact. To give even more stability when utilised as an enormous built-in plug, these plugs also feature two plastic notches on both the right and left sides.

Type B
Plugs with type B are commonly referred to as the three pin plug and recognised as grounded plugs. They are made up of a spherical grounding pin along with two parallel flat prongs. Type B electrical plugs' current and voltage ratings are 15A and 125V, respectively.

Type G
Three rectangular pins arranged in a triangle create Type G plugs, including an integrated fuse. Fuse ratings of 3A or 13A are included with Type G plugs. Type G plugs are frequently used in heavy-duty appliances due to their higher current rating. For this reason, Type G plug and socket arrangement is considered one of the safest tools for the equipment and the user.

Type K
Two circular pins, including a U-shape earthing pin, are known as type K electrical plugs. The gender and structure of the earthing connection on these plugs differ from those of Type E plugs. The construction of Type K plugs prevents polarity reversal and is embedded with a current rating of 16A.

Type D
Three circular pins arranged in a triangle shape are known as Type D electrical plugs. Type D plugs are shielded against polarity reversal due to their asymmetrical pin layout.

Advantages of Power Socket

Unmatched convenience and accessibility: They provide readily accessible, easy-to-use power for daily needs, allowing for instant connecting and disconnecting of appliances without specialized tools.

Enhanced safety features: Modern sockets are designed for safety, featuring child-proof mechanisms, tamper-resistant shutters, and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) that protect against electrical shocks, especially in wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

Energy efficiency and monitoring: Smart sockets can be programmed to cut power when devices are not in use, and many now feature energy monitoring to track usage patterns, encouraging a more eco-friendly and cost-effective lifestyle.

Versatility and modern integration: Sockets can be customized in various combinations and locations, including integrated usb ports for charging devices without adapters, or hidden sockets in furniture for a tidy, modern look.

Scalability: The ability to add more sockets (such as and wall-mounted outlets) eliminates the need for unsafe and cluttered extension cords, ensuring a clean and safe environment.

Reduced overloading risks: Properly installed, strategically placed, and durable sockets reduce the likelihood of overheating and potential electrical hazards, supporting safe and stable operation for all electrical devices.

Choosing the Right Power Socket

When choosing a power socket, there are a few key factors to consider

01/

Electrical rating
The electrical rating of a power socket refers to the maximum voltage and current it can handle. You should choose a socket with an electrical rating that matches the requirements of your devices. Overloading a socket can cause damage to your devices and even start a fire.

02/

Safety features
Safety is a crucial factor when it comes to power sockets. Look for sockets that have built-in surge protection, overload protection, and other safety features to ensure that your devices are protected.

03/

Location
The location of your power socket is also an important consideration. If you plan to use your devices outdoors, you will need a socket that is weatherproof and designed for outdoor use.

04/

Number of sockets
The number of sockets you need will depend on how many devices you need to connect. If you have multiple devices in one room, a multi-socket extension lead may be a good option.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between A power outlet and A socket?

A: An electrical outlet and a socket both facilitate connecting devices to a power source, but they differ in location and technical terminology. Generally, an outlet (or receptacle) is a wall-mounted fixture providing power, while a socket is a receiving point for a plug or bulb. "Outlet" is more common in US English, while "socket" is prevalent in UK English.

Q: How does A power socket work?

A: A power socket (or outlet) works by providing a safe, accessible connection to your home’s electrical grid, using metal contact strips to deliver electricity through a plug's hot, neutral, and ground prongs. When you plug in a device, you complete an electrical circuit, allowing alternating current (AC) to flow from the service panel to your appliance.

Q: How to install A power socket?

A: Installing a power socket involves turning off the power, connecting the hot (black/brown) wire to the brass terminal, neutral (white/blue) to silver, and ground (green/bare copper) to the green screw. Always test that the power is off using a voltage tester and follow local building codes.

Q: What is A power socket in electrical?

A: A socket (also known as a receptacle or outlet) is fixed in place, often on the internal walls of buildings, and is connected to an AC electrical circuit. Inserting ("plugging in") the plug into the socket allows the device to draw power from this circuit.
